Dans d\u2019autres pays, il existe des confitures similaires, dont l\u2019arequipe, le manjar blanco, la cajeta ou le caramel, mais elles ne sont pas comparables \u00e0 la saveur d\u00e9licieuse est all\u00e9chante de l\u2019authentique dulce de leche. Son origine est discut\u00e9e, puisque des pays comme le Br\u00e9sil ou l\u2019Uruguay affirment en \u00eatre les inventeurs. Cependant, la l\u00e9gende se fait histoire le soir du 11 Octobre 1928, quand Juan Manuel de Rosas et son opposant politique et cousin, Juan Lavalle, devaient se r\u00e9unir pour la signature d\u2019un accord de paix dans l\u2019 \u201cestancia\u201d du premier. La domestique \u00e9tait en train de cuisiner de la lechada (du lait chaud avec du sucre) que Rosas aimait prendre avec le traditionnel mate, quand la G\u00e9n\u00e9ral Lavalle arriva \u00e0 l\u2019 \u201cestancia\u201d, ne trouvant pas le propri\u00e9taire, il d\u00e9cida de dormir une sieste pour se remettre de son \u00e9puisant voyage. Quand la domestique d\u00e9couvrit Lavalle en train de dormir sur le lit de son ma\u00eetre, elle alla appeler les gardes pour qu\u2019ils le chassent, n\u00e9gligeant la lechada qui continuait \u00e0 se cuire dans le feu. Rosas arriva \u00e0 son \u201cestancia\u201d juste \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0, \u00e9vitant qu\u2019on r\u00e9veille celui qu\u2019il consid\u00e9rait son fr\u00e8re de lait pour avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 allait\u00e9s par la m\u00eame nourrice. Quand la domestique retourna au feu, elle d\u00e9couvrit que le lait \u00e9tait devenu un m\u00e9lange \u00e9pais et marron. Avec crainte, elle avoua \u00e0 Rosas ce qui c\u2019\u00e9tait pass\u00e9 et lui, au lieu de se f\u00e2cher, il voulut go\u00fbter cette nouvelle p\u00e2te. Il l\u2019aima tellement qu\u2019il la partagea avec Lavalle pendant la signature de l\u2019accord. Ce jour-l\u00e0 naissait, par accident, le dulce de leche.
